  • Live audience Q&A
  • Insights from professors & experts
  • Drinks and conversation afterward
A speaker addressing a seated audience in a warmly lit room.

The Experience

Class is in session. Drinks are optional.

Remember the lectures you actually looked forward to in college? We're bringing that feeling to local bars and venues. Each month, a professor or expert takes us into a subject worth knowing more about. Grab a seat, order a drink, and enjoy a 45-minute lecture followed by questions and conversation.

Who's teaching
A professor or someone who knows the subject first-hand.
What you'll hear
One topic, properly explored, by someone worth listening to.
How long
Forty-five minutes, then questions from the room.
Where
A local bar or venue, not a conference room.

You don't need to work in real estate to come. Anyone curious is welcome, unless a particular lecture says otherwise.

Subjects worth exploring

Real estate is bigger than listings.

A sense of the ground we expect to cover. Each lecture takes one of these somewhere specific.

  • LH 01

    Architecture & Design

How buildings get their shape, and who decides.

  • LH 02

    Housing & Cities

What makes a neighbourhood work, and what breaks it.

  • LH 03

    Real Estate Finance

Where the money comes from and what it expects back.

  • LH 04

    Development & Construction

Dirt to doors, and everything that goes wrong between.

  • LH 05

    Investing & Economics

The forces setting prices long before a listing appears.

  • LH 06

    Property Ownership

What owning actually involves once the keys change hands.

Meet the lecturers

Learn from people who know their subject.

Every lecture is led by someone who has spent real time inside the topic, whether that's teaching it, building it or financing it. Speakers are announced with each lecture.

The first speaker will be announced with the first lecture.

Every lecture takes a few people on the door, setting up the space and keeping the night moving. If you want to be in the room and lend a hand, put your name down.

FAQs

Before you come.

What actually happens at a Lecture Hall night?

A speaker gives a 45-minute lecture on one subject, then takes questions from the room. After that people stay, talk and order another round if they want to. It runs like a good class, not a seminar.

Do I need to work in real estate?

No. Our launch programming leans into real estate, but the lectures are built for anyone curious about the subject. The only exception is a lecture that specifically says it is limited to a particular group.

Where are the lectures held?

Local bars and venues around Houston. The exact spot is named on each lecture once it is confirmed.

How much are tickets, and how many seats are there?

Advance tickets are $35 for most lectures, and the rooms are intimate at around 60 seats. Both are set per lecture, so check the listing for the exact price and capacity.

How do I buy a ticket?

Through Eventbrite. Each lecture links straight to its own listing once it goes on sale.

What if a lecture sells out?

Join the waitlist on that lecture's Eventbrite page. People on the list hear about new dates first, which is usually the easier way in.

Do I have to drink?

Not at all. It's a bar, so a drink is there if you want one. Plenty of people come for the lecture alone.

What is Lecture Hall's relationship to Madu Rooms?

Lecture Hall is a Madu Rooms experience. Madu Rooms produces in-person events across business, culture and wellness; Lecture Hall is the lecture series.
